Why We Don’t Use Argan Oil, and What We Use Instead

Argan oil shows up in a lot of beard products. It’s well-known, it sounds premium, and it’s been marketed as the golden standard for years.
But we don’t use it, and that’s a very deliberate choice.
Reason 1: It’s a Potential Nut Allergen

This isn't for the sake of being different, but because nut allergies are real and common. Argan oil comes from the nut of the argan tree, and while it’s often praised for its benefits, it’s still a potential allergen for some people. That alone is enough reason for us to leave it out of our beard care.
Reason 2: It’s Often Overharvested and Unsustainable
Argan oil is largely produced in Morocco, where global demand has skyrocketed in the last decade. The result? Overharvesting, environmental stress, and increased pressure on local ecosystems. We believe that grooming products shouldn’t come at the cost of someone else’s land or long-term sustainability.
Instead of chasing trend oils, we choose ingredients that are closer to home, easier on the planet, and just as effective.
What We Use Instead: Local, High-Performance Oils
Rather than importing oils with a questionable footprint, we build our formulas with New Zealand-grown and organic oils wherever possible:
- Kiwi Seed Oil (NZ) – light, fast-absorbing, rich in omega-3
- Avocado Oil (NZ) – ultra-nourishing, packed with natural antioxidants
- High Oleic Sunflower Oil (NZ) – great for skin barrier support
- Organic Flax Seed Oil (NZ) – known for calming inflammation and redness
Our blends are crafted to hydrate, soften, and support the skin without relying on hype ingredients or overused imports.

Argan oil isn’t evil. But it’s nut-based, overharvested, and not necessary for a great beard formula. We’d rather use ingredients that are nut-free, sustainable, and sourced as close to home as possible. That’s better for your skin, your beard, and the planet.
